The husk is the part of the grain (cereal) in the form of dry, scaly, and inedible leaves, which protect the inside (endosperm) and embryo). Husks can be found on most grasses (Poaceae), although on some plants hullless cereal varieties can also be found (e.g. corn and wheat).
In agriculture, rice husks can be used as a feed mixture, as bedding, mixed into the soil as fertilizer, burned or used as charcoal for planting substrate.
Rice husk pellets are a kind of biomass material pellets. Made from rice husks or rice husks which are the outermost layer of rice grains. Rice husks have the disadvantages of being soft, light and low in calories.
Rice husk fuel pellets are made by compacting rice husks obtained from the by-product of rice cultivation in the fields. Its properties are also similar to wood pellets and are more environmentally friendly because the raw material is a waste product. The energy content is around 4-4.2 kcal/kg and the water content is usually less than 10%. Pellet size is generally about 6 mm in diameter and 25 mm long in a cylindrical shape; although larger cylindrical or briquette forms are not uncommon. These pellets are much cheaper than similar energy pellets and can be compressed/produced from husks on the farm itself, using cheap machinery. Generally more environmentally friendly than wood pellets.
